Lombok is a mountainous region with beaches, villages and active volcanos. This area of paradise has a lot of offer and is ready for those who want to make the trek. Many of the area tours begin in Senggigi and head out from this popular village.
As you make your way around the Senaru Traditional Village you will see the locals working on baskets, pottery and other textiles. The old villages celebrate the Wektu Telu Religion and some of the ornamentation reflects their beliefs. However, it is not until you begin to climb up to Senaru and Sembalun Bumbung that you see all the natural resources in the area. From garlic to coffee the hills are the growing capitals of the area.
Climbing through the different villages up to the opening of Mount Rinjani one has a sense of the power of nature. As the clear blue waters and the heat from the volcano come into focus there is a stillness you will not find on any other hike. Be wary of the crater as it is active and last erupted in 1994.
